About the Premier Hockey League

The PHL

The Premier Hockey League has been successfully operating in Western Canada for 3 seasons. Founders Kelly Bruce and Kevin Hill have over 50 years’ experience playing, coaching, and running successful hockey programs. The League was started to provide a different development model to allow players to play hockey at a higher level than minor hockey allows under an enhanced development model.

The PHL runs a league for its member organizations. These member organizations are independently owned and operated and have chosen to participate in the PHL as all or part of their teams development.

The PHL continues to grow every year. We started in 2019 with 4 teams in one division and this year we expect to have 50+ teams in from Alberta, British Columbia and Montana.

Mission Statement

The PHL was founded to provide an option for teams, coaches, players and families to develop young players at a level consistent with their abilities.

The PHL strives to improve each year by:

  • Recruiting & training on ice officials
  • Communication between teams, coaches & managers
  • Rules that improve the quality of our development model
  • Affiliation access to higher leagues
  • Arena locations to offer each area team a reasonable travel schedule
  • A reasonable schedule of showcases to allow to more development ice & exhibition games

It is our hope that young athletes playing in the League will enjoy a fun and developmental experience while they chase their dreams.
