U5–U7: Age-appropriate discussion
Encourage trying to shoot, then looking for the puck again. Avoid complicated scoring expectations.
U8–U10: Age-appropriate discussion
Praise looking up, choosing a simple target and following the play.
U11–U14: Age-appropriate discussion
Discuss traffic, passing lanes and when a teammate is better positioned.
U15–U18: Age-appropriate discussion
Evaluate shot selection, support spacing, screens and a second option.
For Coaches and Parents
Coach: explain one controllable action in calm language and give the Player a chance to try it. Parent: support enjoyment and learning rather than judging the child by a single NHL comparison or game result.
