Colleen “Mrs. Hockey®” Howe (February 17, 1933 – March 6, 2009) was a hockey innovator and sports powerhouse in her own right who opened doors for women of all ages who love the game. She was the first female sports agent ever and founded Power Play International and Power Play Publications to manage the business interests of her husband, Hall of Fame hockey player Gordie Howe and their sons Marty and Mark. As a civic leader, she brought the first Junior A hockey team to the United States, built the first indoor rink for public use in Michigan and ran for Congress. In 2000, as “Mrs. Hockey®”, Colleen received the Wayne Gretzky International Award—presented to individuals “who have made major contributions to the growth and advancement of hockey in the United States”—from the US Hockey Hall of Fame, along with her husband (known as “Mr. Hockey®”) and sons. Married to Gordie for 55 years, she truly was the driving force in the First Family of Hockey. The Mrs. Hockey® Invitational Tournament is both a tribute to her legacy and a passing of the torch to females in hockey everywhere.
Nicknamed “The Howe,” the inaugural Mrs. Hockey® Invite took place in 2019 in Tampa, FL
Due to COVID, the 2021 edition was relocated to Travel + Leisure Magazine’s Top Ranked City in the USA,
Charleston, SC. In January 2023 we were thrilled to bring Mrs. Hockey to Ft. Lauderdale!
This 12U only event features top talent from across North America!
