6 – PRESIDENT MARK 🏒 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT™ – Growing Through FUN

Every child develops differently.

Some children score their first goal at six years old.

Others discover their confidence at twelve.

Some become elite players.

Many simply discover a lifelong love of hockey.

Every journey has value.

At The Hockey Resource, we believe player development is about far more than skating faster, shooting harder, or winning more games.

True player development builds confidence.

Character.

Decision-making.

Creativity.

Leadership.

Resilience.

And a love for learning.

That is why our philosophy begins with one simple belief:

Children learn best when they enjoy learning.

Development doesn’t happen because children are afraid to make mistakes.

Development happens because they are encouraged to try.

To experiment.

To fail.

To improve.

To try again.

Great coaches understand that every player follows a different path.

Great parents understand that comparison steals confidence.

Great organizations understand that development is measured over seasons, not weekends.

At The Hockey Resource, we encourage coaches to develop players who think, not simply players who react.

Players who solve problems.

Players who communicate.

Players who support teammates.

Players who enjoy competing.

As children grow, their definition of fun changes.

A younger player may dream of pretending to be Connor McDavid.

An older player may spend extra time perfecting My Signature Move.

Both are developing.

Both are learning.

Both are enjoying the game.

That is why one of the guiding principles of The Hockey Resource FUN System™ is:

Older Kids Redefine FUN.

Development should always challenge players.

But it should never remove the joy of learning.

Children who enjoy improving usually continue improving.

Children who enjoy hockey usually continue playing hockey.

Our goal is not simply to develop better hockey players.

Our goal is to develop confident young people who leave hockey with skills that last far beyond the rink.

Because…

Childhood Is Temporary.

Let’s Keep Hockey FUN.

HOW WE REACHED THE HOCKEY ANSWER™

At The Hockey Tournament Resource™, we believe Hockey families, Players, Coaches and Officials deserve more than opinions. They deserve answers supported by research, experience and practical understanding of the game.

Every question begins with something Hockey people genuinely want to know.

OUR RESEARCH PROCESS

1. WE FIND REAL QUESTIONS. We investigate what Hockey Players, Parents, Coaches and Officials are asking and searching for.
2. WE SEARCH THE WORLD FOR ANSWERS. We examine relevant Hockey knowledge, coaching practices, available research and expert perspectives from around the world.
3. WE COMPARE THE EVIDENCE. We look beyond individual opinions, consider different approaches and identify where the strongest available evidence points.
4. WE APPLY REAL HOCKEY EXPERIENCE. We consider how the findings apply to actual Hockey situations, including different ages, skill levels and stages of development.
5. WE DELIVER A PRACTICAL ANSWER. We explain what our research suggests, why it matters and what Hockey people can do with that information.

We recognize that not every Hockey question has one perfect answer. Age, ability, experience and individual circumstances can change what works best.

Our commitment is to provide thoughtful, practical answers while being clear about what the evidence supports and where uncertainty remains.
