America First Center Transportation for Hockey Teams on Tournament Weekends

Tournament transportation at America First Center requires more planning than simply entering the arena address into a navigation app. Teams must account for players, coaches, hockey bags, sticks, arrival deadlines, parking availability and overlapping game times involving both ice surfaces.

America First Center is located at 222 South Water Street, Henderson, Nevada 89015, near the intersection of Water Street and Basic Road. The 120,000-square-foot facility contains two NHL-regulation ice surfaces, increasing the likelihood that several teams will arrive and depart within the same time window.

Best Transportation Option for a Hockey Team

For a complete team travelling together, the strongest option is a prearranged charter coach, minibus or dedicated team shuttle.

This keeps players and coaches on one schedule, provides more room for equipment and reduces the risk of someone arriving late at the wrong entrance. Some Las Vegas-area motorcoach providers specifically advertise athletic-team transportation and equipment storage, but teams should obtain several written quotes and confirm vehicle capacity before booking.

Before accepting a quote, the team manager should confirm:

• Space for every player, coach and staff member
• Storage capacity for hockey bags and sticks
• Airport, hotel and arena transfers
• Driver waiting-time charges
• Early-morning and late-evening availability
• Whether the same vehicle and driver remain assigned all weekend
• Cancellation and schedule-change policies
• Commercial licensing and insurance
• Final price, including fees and gratuities

A vehicle that seats 24 passengers may not necessarily accommodate 24 passengers plus full hockey equipment. Equipment capacity must be confirmed separately.

The Water Street garage has approximately 364 spaces, but hockey tournaments, community events and Water Street programming can place additional pressure on the surrounding parking supply.

Families should arrive at least 45 minutes before the team’s required dressing-room time, not 45 minutes before puck drop. That provides time to park, move equipment, locate the assigned rink and deal with any schedule or access changes.

Parents should not leave vehicles in loading zones while carrying equipment into the facility. One adult can unload the player and equipment while the driver proceeds directly to an approved parking area.

Driving to America First Center

The most common regional approach is through the I-11/US-93/US-95 corridor, using Lake Mead Parkway and then Water Street. City directions for the adjacent Water Street Plaza instruct southbound drivers to use Exit 61B toward eastbound Lake Mead Parkway before turning onto Water Street.

Transportation from Harry Reid International Airport

America First Center is approximately 11 to 13 miles from Harry Reid International Airport, with driving times commonly estimated around 20 to 30 minutes under ordinary conditions. Tournament teams should budget more time for baggage collection, rental-car shuttles, traffic and loading hockey equipment.

The airport provides:

• Rental-car transportation through the Airport Rent-A-Car Center
• Uber and Lyft pickup areas inside designated parking-garage levels
• Taxis outside baggage claim
• Airport and private shuttle services
• Interterminal transportation between Terminals 1 and 3

Free airport shuttles transport passengers between the terminals and the rental-car facility.

Recommended Airport Plan

For an entire team, book one airport transfer with space specifically reserved for hockey equipment.

For several families arriving on different flights, rental vehicles may be more practical. However, each family must confirm that its vehicle can carry passengers, luggage, sticks and oversized hockey bags safely.

Rideshare vehicles work for coaches, officials or small groups travelling without equipment. They are less dependable for moving a complete roster because vehicle size, cargo room and availability can vary.

Rental Vans and Team Vehicles

Passenger vans, SUVs and minivans can work when families are sharing transportation. The team manager should create a vehicle list before arrival showing:

Every player should have one primary ride and one backup ride. The team should not attempt to organize transportation in the hotel lobby immediately before departure.

Rideshare Transportation

However, rideshare should not be the team’s primary transportation system. Tournament demand, community events and evening activity can affect vehicle availability and waiting times.

The team manager should establish one approved pickup point away from active traffic and confirm it with arena personnel. Players should never be left outside waiting alone for a rideshare vehicle.

Public Transportation

RTC Southern Nevada provides transit service to the Water Street District, including connections using the Boulder Highway Express corridor. Current routes and service times should be checked through RTC immediately before travel because schedules and stops can change.

Public transit may be reasonable for spectators or family members without equipment. It is not the recommended primary option for teams carrying hockey bags and sticks while working against fixed dressing-room deadlines.

Use one contracted transportation provider whenever the budget permits. Keeping players, coaches and equipment together reduces missed departures, parking problems and last-minute communication.

For drive-in tournaments, families may use their own vehicles, but the team should still establish common departure times, parking instructions and backup transportation.

The objective is not simply to reach the arena. The objective is to have every player dressed, prepared and ready to compete without transportation becoming part of the tournament pressure.
